United Delighted, Cities Impressed (EPL Talk Podcast)

In the pod this weekend there is discussion of racism, flopping and drawing. That’s just at Anfield. Sitting in The Kop this week are Jesse Chula and Joseph Weathered, whilst Kartik Krishnaiyer offers his views from inside Starbucks.

Up for review: Man City’s longevity. Can Mancini’s men make it through christmas and more importantly the Manchester Derby with their dignity and their sanity? Sir Alex will have a blunt answer, in the same way that Chicharito did for Liverpool’s underwhelming dominance at Anfield as the biggest match in club football ended in a draw.

But wait, the league isn’t just about the ‘Big Four’ anymore. Norwich and Swansea make things interesting in the south whilst Newcastle are still punching above their weight. Bolton look buoyant too, but they don’t promise half as much as Stoke do.

We also look forward to the Champions League and what may come of our prized assets as they square up against the European heavyweights. All of this makes for some tricky predicting but good analysis. If you want to offer your views to the podcast then email:

I really liked the podcast better when it was just you and Kartik.. Referring to a free kick as a penalty kick.. The lack of knowledge of basic football terms is appalling. Please do something about this as the podcast was something I really enjoyed before, but now it is becoming a drag to listen to.

did anyone see the cheslea-everton game?? man what a bore that was. everton needs to be put out of its misery and be relegated. it will save the rest of us the trouble of having to watch them play boring, long-ball, negative football. david moyes doesn’t respect the fans because if he did, he wouldn’t play such a style. it hasn’t done him any good anyways. chelsea still managed to score goals. everton played too deep to give their forward players any chances. how many times was louis saha called offsides? everton needs some money into the club and fast. david moyes can’t keep getting the best out of the players he has playing this style. i think the only player who flourishes in this system is their midfielder Fellaini, but he’s a defensive mid ffs. if you want to win games and score goals, you have to change your style because obviously, you can’t expect the strikers to fend for themselves up front. and speaking of chelsea, even they looked out of sorts. first of all, their passing is so agricultural, the way they just boot the ball around. look at Barcelona and how they stroke it around, and how Chelsea just smash it along the ground, hoping that it takes a deflection off of an opposing player and to another Chelsea player. you see the way frank lampard just smashes it long to drogba, whose all by himself on the left wing, hoping he gets it, turns his body toward goal quickly, and shot the ball at goal???

I have to be honest, it has become very difficult to listen to the podcast since Joe was added into the mix. I don’t want to be overly critical, but I’m hopeful his contribution to the pod becomes far more polished. I’m just not sure how many more times I can handle listening to him say ‘you know’, or ramble on incoherently.

Jesse seems willing to convict Suarez of racism based only on his being Luis Suarez. The fact that he got a hand ball – an instinctual move anyone would have done for his country in the heat of the moment – means he’s capable of racism? The fact that he got angry enough to bite someone means he’s a racist? He’s a very passionate guy and his emotions show on the pitch, but calling him a racist is a very serious charge.

Let’s not forget that Sky Sports said that they could find no video evidence of Suarez saying anything. And Evra claimed that he said it “ten times”, surely one of those would have been caught on tape? Evra also claimed that the ref was aware of the comments, but why didn’t the ref send Suarez off? And then why did Evra and SAF have to go to the ref’s office after the game to make him aware if the ref knew on the pitch as Evra claims? And Jesse repeated several times that “where there’s smoke…” yet there has been smoke around Evra and racist claims at least twice before and no fires where ever found.

I think Evra should be banned.

What do you expect? Jesse is a Man U fan who has written plenty of nonsense about Liverpool in the past.

If there’s demonstrable proof that Evra is lying about this he should be banned and fined for a similar amount of time that Suarez would get if Evra is telling the truth. If Evra is lying it’s defamation of character and bringing the game into disrepute. Of course demonstrable proof of lying is going to be hard to produce, but I was offended by Jesse’s (???) suggestion that if Evra is lying then the whole matter should just be dropped.

If Suarez did racially abuse him then by all means he should get a stiff fine and long ban from the game
