The Rangel Bonus Round (EPL Talk Review Podcast)

Super Sunday! It’s the EPL Talk Podcast and some analysis. Try shouting “Super Sunday” as an exclamation, it sounds lovely. Sky shouted it enough and look how it caught on. Manchester came out tops in the weekend, the table reflects that. But look who else came out top, a Chelsea side with very little to say in the title race right now, but are they building towards something bigger?

RVP showed that he makes his touches count whilst Suarez was touched out of the game by a combination of Rio and Vidic: good to be back?

The pod also discuss EPL Hard-men and Stoke City. Michu was viewed by Del Bosque and Reading decided to win: they did in the end. West Brom let it slip. With some amazing goals in the Premier League this weekend, what was your favourite? Let’s EPL Talk about them:

I’m a little late for this comment, but I miss your analysis that you use to do when there was a different moderator. The podcast is at its best when you take on the slightly-delusional, moderately-defensive, high-pitched Liverpool supporter.

I’ve listened this morning and would argue a few points with you.

Hardmen was a very wishy washy discussion. Shawcross certainly isn’t Stoke’s hard man. That would be Huth or Andy Wilkinson, I’m sure one of you is a Sunderland fan – have a look on YouTube for the Craig Gardner challenge on Wilkinson this season, that’s the reaction of a hard man.

Regarding the Chelsea match, for the first half we matched them, and I would argue we did until th esecond own goal went in. After that it was never going to be our day. You made no mention of Hazard or Ramires constant flopping which was pathetic to the point that even Benitez started to shout at them to get up.

Regarding spend £100m over 5 years is £25m per year. We’ve been out of the top flight for 23 years until we got promoted, therefore we haven’t sucked at the SKY teat for the best part of two decades like other clubs, who I have had the opportunity to build their own teams and infrastructure over a long period of time. We’ve had to catch up very quickly. In terms of how that £100m has been spent I’d tell you with Pulis less is more. Begovic £4m (Spurs had him in their offices ready to sign until Harry the Spiv upset him, how much did Lloris cost? Man City, Man Utd, Real Madrid are all watching him this season), Shawcross £2m, Huth £6m, Nzonzi £4m, Wilson £4m – that lot would cost you £60m to sign from us now. Palacios is a flop but cost £8m not £12m as you stated. As of next season we’re told we’ll break even and we’ve spent £12m on our training facilities for the first team and academy so hopefully this will bear fruit in terms of more homegrown players.

Thanks for bringing up 1985. I’m sure that’s what the experts expected and predicted when we got promoted. It didn’t happen precisely because we were able to spend rapidly. I think that annoyed many of the pundits because we showed them up for the sheep they are.

Out of respect for the people that support teams you obviously are unversed in understanding I’d ask you to do a little more research next time you make sweeping statements as in this podcast. thanks for taking the time to talk about us though.

It becomes incredibly difficult to take anything else Laurence says seriously, when he persists in trying to spin the Liverpool in such an extreme and ludicrous manner.

Look to Morgan about Chelsea, or Kristan about Newcaslte, and you can see far more balanced views.

It unfortunately makes some sections of the podcast (on this and previous weeks) unlistenable.

      Hi Jimbo,

Thanks for the feedback. I’m really interested to hear what else you have to say about the coverage. I’d be more interested to hear the specific points which were ludicrous. Tactical discussions are open to interpretation and obviously as the host it is partly my role to make conversations more interesting by offering an alternative view.

Obviously once you know a lil more about who someone supports then it becomes swayed in the way you listen in some way. Maybe you just mean the tone of the conversation overall? I’m still not sure that I held back or tried to ‘spin’ Liverpool’s loss in some way.

If you have any further feedback I’d like to hear it. So maybe drop me an email:
