Premier League 2011-12 Season Review (EPL Talk Special Podcast)

It takes some time to review the season. So much to fit into one pod, which is why this podcast is almost the length of two EPL Talk podcasts…but worth the time and effort as the regular podders take on morality, money, moronic tweets and missing empty nets. Really?
Of course, looking back can be difficult so we look forward to more seasons and managers as sackings, cups and players move around europe. Kartik broadcasts from Florida where Roberto Martinez decided to ‘divert’ his ‘holiday’. Coincidence?

City, United and Chelsea all get the analysis of our pod and Arsenal are praised for their positivity, Wenger’s fore-sight paying off again. But teams just below that embarrassed themselves: Liverpool being the main candidate for humiliation: or are they? We look at how they can move forward.

Of course, many teams are praised for their changing structure, player roster and mentality. Newcastle do well in these stakes, can they go on and build from here or is this season so anticipation one which sets them up for Bolton’s destiny?

All twenty teams are in this podcast so let us know what you thought of the season. Was your team on the podcast enough? Do you have thoughts on where your team is going next season? Do you even want a team after this season? Join the conversation on Twitter and the Twitter conversation:

The Skye connection for Kartic has been really bad for the past two pods. I can only hear a third of what he says. It’s choppy.

Re Kartic’s comments at 9mins, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t care that City won lottery, I’m just glad that a different club has broken the monopoly. For those of us who don’t support Utd or Chelski or Arsenal, the title “race” has in many ways become extremely boring over the last decade and the only thing anyone cares about is their own team’s league placement, the battle for the European spots and the relegation fight. Those areas are where we have had consistent unpredictability throughout the years. Who gives a f*** which of the troika comes top this year? Oh wait, this year it was someone else! Oh, they had money did they? Really? Well I never. I never, ever would have guessed that it would take money to break into the title-winners triopoly.

If some billionaire wanted to buy and invest in my local team who I’ve had no choice but to support since I was a child, I’d be over the moon and I’d enjoy the ride without any shame and without any apology. The intertwining of sports and money is a fact of life and had been for a long, long time. Anyone who pretends otherwise is deluded. The only problem I have is, how to convince Marc Zuckerberg that Crystal Palace FC is the investment of the century?

Woah woah woah, you mean final of the season, yes? You started the podcast saying it’s the “final podcast”. Please don’t tell me you guys are calling it a day on the EPL casting.

JC, no worries, Laurence meant it’s the final podcast of the 2011-12 Premier League season. We’re starting back up again next week with daily episodes through Euro 2012.

great podcast over the year! love listening to it while i work, especially given how insidious robbie savage has become on 5live with his tiresomely divisive noise
