Mid-weekness (EPL Talk Preview Podcast)

It was the first round of mid-week games, with goals, gaffs, and torrential rain!

Harry finally took the QPR dugout but was only able to get a draw on his debut – do you think the wheel….I mean ‘football manager’ can keep the Hoops up? Let us know in the comments section!

Meanwhile Brenden Rodgers proved that while possession may be 9/10ths of the law, it doesn’t win you football matches – as Gareth Bale scored twice (kind of).

We also previewed this weekend’s fixtures, in which Man City – Everton face off in the rich man – poor man playoff, and Clint Dempsey faces his former love in Fulham. Should Clint celebrate if he scores? Would you? Let us know in the section below!

Good podcast, except for Lawrence’s technical issues causing very choppy audio.

Morgan as moderator positions himself more objectively, which I find more pleasant. Not that he is a better moderator than Lawremce, just a better Morgan.

The Démbèle observation I agree with and have been saying myself prior to the stat’s showing it to be true.

Also the packet winger being ‘undone’ observation is also correct, which is what was so poor about the 442 Harry system, no joy down the wings then that was it. Modric DIDN’T drive through the middle like Démbèle, so that also is a great observation.

What I will say is there are 2 more pieces to the puzzle, the first being the b position in the 3 attacking midfielders, behind the striker, is also key, when/IF Dempsey or Sig or Falque can click with Démbèle, then it will become more balanced with Démbèle driving the middle releasing that B position whomever it is through the middle in triangles with Defoe….very tasty

The 2nd piece is the back four, getting caulker and jan in center to better defend will be key as most of LFC’s opportunity and pressure in the last 20 mins was sustainable because of poor gallas and dawson play….they were horrid.

So the Spurs attack is still a work in progress but the fitter more settled Démbèle can become the better if wil be, you ad the b role success to it and there will be balance, and a diverse attack.

I think although Lennon can be absolutely electric it’s more like the electric from a shored out system, to sporadic and unreliable, I would expect an acquisition (Willian) to fill those shoes and be more consistent.

If you are a back 4 who do you double up on? Bale? Then you leave the B role open as well as the Lennon/hopefully Willian role open? Who do you double?

I think the 4-2-3-1 AVB wants with the correct personnel will be quiet a force when it is up and running.

Didn’t here any thoughts on Doening as a defender and Enrique as an attacking midfielder. Perhaps Enrique can be a positive, but downing…ouch…horrid.
