Fixture Luck? (Premier League Weekend Review Show, Gameweek 6)

This weekend the pod focuses on the order of games. Does United’s draw reflect anything in the league or is this just down to ‘luck of the draw’ at FA Head-Quarters? Either way, it makes for an interesting narrative-arc in this week’s action.

Looking forward to the Champions League, Petr Cech claims that Chelsea are obsessed with winning a European Cup, but does the dominance of so many other teams make it yet more impossible for this side?

Torres talk continues as he managed to bag himself a goal and then get sent off. Referees had a lot to do with this week’s results, but how much influence did they have on the overall flow and pace of play?

To cap off another podcast we have a competition. The third segment introduces the opportunity to win ‘Footballers’ Haircuts’ by posting a picture of your favorite footy-haircut below. We chose the winner on Thursday during the podcast so get your entries in now. Leave them in the comment section and you might win a once in a lifetime prize.

Also here’s a link to a new Adidas competition.

the following link has the best of the best in terms of bad hair. My vote is for Abel Xavier who looks like he is wearing an upside down straw boat.

Thank you for your response, Laurence. I appreciate it. The Olymp bit did get to me a bit, but that’s the part of commentating and podcasts, no? It definitely won’t stop me from always tuning in. Take care.

Hey, guys, love the podcast. But what’s up with the total lack of research about Olympiacos? Everyone just assume they’ll lose. Why? I understand it’s not GPL Talk, but a short Wikipedia search could tell you it’s a strong, formidable side with a long and proud tradition. I love your usual wealth of knowledge and insight, but it was missing in that segment.

      Hi George,

Just for the record, we do all know who Olympiacos are. One of my favourite ex-EPL players Mellberg is still playing there. I hope that my sarcasm didn’t come off in the wrong way. It was more of a comment on the way that the English press treat alien teams in the CL. They don’t.

They have quite a history in the CL, you’re right, they deserve more respect! We’ll endeavour to do more research on Ol and Pana et al. in future! Hope it didn’t get in the way of your listening experience :).

To get things started, here’s one of my favorite footballer’s haircuts:

Audio quality was much better this week. Just figured I’d mention it.

Podcast quality was good as always. Too much Joey Barton, but I’m learning to live with it. QPR -v- Villa was probably my game of the week.

And how good is Stoke at home? I’d be very interested to see Barcelona go in there and try to get a win. I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that after the Big 6 (being very generous and including Arsenal in that group), Stoke may be the best team in the league. Not on talent, but they seem to play so cohesively (loss to Sunderland notwithstanding).

    Cheers
