Euro 2012 Group D Preview (EPL Talk Podcast)

Group D is one of the most fascinating, from an English perspective. For the French it is a new start and a chance to prove themselves. Sweden have nothing to prove as a team, but as individuals they surround Ibra and make a lovely supply line.

Ukraine have a wonderful technical side and without a qualifying record it looks difficult to assess their chances, apart form the wonderful league form of many their players.

There is an extended section on England and Roy Hodgson, how well will they do at this tournament with no expectation on them? Kris and Kartik break it down as Morgan and Matt provide context. What do you think Group D will do?

Molodets, Laurence! Your Ukrainian is coming along very nicely indeed, and so is Matt’s by the quickness of his response 🙂

As for some actual footy thoughts, Ukraine can be rather boring in their play (see the 0-0 penalty shootout win over Switzerland at WC 2006), but if it brings them results I won’t be complaining too much. Kristan rightly highlighted Yarmolenko on the left wing, and Husyev on the right is another to watch. Aliyev can also strike a dead ball well. I wouldn’t expect much from Sheva at this stage, but he does bring needed leadership and still has the quality to be able to produce in a big moment.

Now, back to the fun stuff. Would you believe there’s a 42-year old Ukrainian cartoon depicting Cossacks conquering the European football landscape? It even correctly predicts the order of the group stage matches. Enjoy at the following link:!
