Wow, what venom! As a huge USMNT supporter, I enjoy hearing all perspectives on the team. I especially value the perspectives of those whom I consider to have expert opinions on the European game. The best football is played in Europe, so I value the opinions stated on this podcast as much higher than those stated on other more USMNT friendly podcasts.

Landon Donovan is a big deal here in the states, at least among soccer people. But the fact is that he was abysmal in Germany. That’s a fact. He had 2 very strong loan stints in England with Everton. However, that is very different from consistently performing at a high level over a 10 month season. We can appreciate what Landon Donovan has meant to the game here in the states, and take pride in his time at Everton. We can say, probably correctly, that his time in Germany is not the most accurate representation of his abilities. But it did still happen, and can’t just be overlooked. And, the USMNT was outplayed by Brazil. To mean the scoreline was harsh, and it seemed we could have nicked a goal at the end, but Brazil missed some chances as well. Considering that result, and the 0-0 draw on Sunday, I think the comments were justified.

There was something in there about the record against the rest of the league being more important than the head to head record. I happened to have disagreed with the point as well. But it was an argument that I hadn’t heard before and it did make me think a little. On top of that, I’m a ManU supporter, so it would have favored my club to have the league decided the other way.

As far as the audio quality is concerned, I don’t recall having paid to listen. Yea, Kartik’s Skype feed periodically breaks up. But, it’s a 4-way inter-continental call. I’m continually impressed with this podcast. It is getting better and better with each show. I listen to many podcasts, but if I had to choose one, it would be this one. Guess I just wanted to balance the scales after the initial comment.

    Hi EQD Talk,

I appreciate all the points you were making- how would you feel about a friendly debate? Be it on the podcast, or even just on Skype for our own amusement. I genuinely enjoy engaging with listeners who disagree or have a contrasting viewpoint to my own.

If that’s something that would appeal just email Laurence, or myself at and we’ll arrange something.

Hi EQDTalk (What does the EQD stand for?),

Just so you know, I haven’t rated your comment, and won’t. First up, I appreciate your feedback, I think it hits a lot of really pertinent points for me from a production perspective. The fact that you took the time to write something with so much feedback is really appreciated.

It was a cheap shot at the USMNT, if that. I think Kartik’s point with Donovan is that he hasn’t been consistent with the way he makes decisions and sometimes could come off as hypocritical in his career moves; especially considering his criticism of D Beck.

I’d be interested to hear your fuller thoughts in an email, I’ll be happy to take on your comments and try to incorporate your feedback to make the podcast better:

We’re working hard to improve the quality of the audio right now, Skype is a great tool. I hope that you found some of the content useful or entertaining.

I’m going to write something more substantial but I just want to express my initial reaction to this podcast which is pure, unadulterated hatred. Specifically the part where you take shots at the US men’s national team.

I am a American but I am not at all gung-ho about our national team but it’s just the snide remarks that really ticked me off. But don’t get the wrong idea because that is not the only reason, this discontent towards EPLtalk that I have has been building for some time but the US-Brazil comments (Donovan got a 1) was the final straw.

Again it’s 3am where I am and I’ve got to get to bed but a quick outline of what has appaled me: the audio quality of the podcast first of all, it’s an embarassment and that alone is a good reason for me to unsubscribe. The comment made by (I don’t have all the names down) someone (Kartik or Kristin) on (when talking about City vs United) how the record against the rest of the league should count more than head to head, which is possibly the dumbest sports argument I have ever heard no exaggeration, the absolutley lukewarm, lackluster coverage of Chelsea winning the Champions League (absolutley failed in putting that into a larger perspective) and hate to do this to a fellow Chelsea fan but Morgan you absolutley sucked at bringing that Chelsea perspective in winning CL. I believe your most memorable line was you had some beverages. And that ridiculous spiel about (Kartik or Kristan) walking his dog during CL which I don’t even know where to begin how irritating I found that.

Then there’s the insane rant against Chelsea during the season review where one of you honestly went at Chelsea for losing a couple of games in a bundle during the I believe 2009/2010 season (I believe the criticism was mental weakness) where they won the league which is so ridiculous (unthinkable any American analyst saying something like that) I can’t even…..

Then recently the preview of the Spanish team for Euro 2012 which in you almost skipped out on mentioning Fernando Torres. I’m not talking about you were too harsh on him, no no. You barely mentioned him, you acted like it was some minor subplot when it’s undeniable he’s a major major story (good or bad). If someone like Lebron is underachieving he’s still THE story, Torres is a major story, poor form or not.

So yeah. I’m actually very upset because I liked the podcast and I think as a newer soccer fan I can learn a lot from it but every single damn podcast there’s one or two things said that drives me crazy. I find everyone irritating except Laurence except for that one time he said American sports fans were stupid for watching the Superbowl or something like that.

Yeah but again going back to my initial criticism, the absolute worst was the cheap shots at the USMNT. I’d really like to give you all a John Terry knee in the back after hearing that.
