Wales appeal FIFA poppy mosaic fine

London (AFP) – The Football Association of Wales will appeal against the fine imposed by FIFA over the displaying of commemorative symbols during a Wales game, the organisation announced on Friday. British football teams fined for poppy war tribute

Zurich (AFP) – FIFA fined England 45,000 Swiss francs ($43,850, 42,000 euros) on Monday for wearing a poppy tribute to British war dead during their November 11 World Cup qualifier against Scotland. Scotland were fined 20,000 Swiss francs, while Wales and Northern Ireland were given 20,000 and 15,000 Swiss franc fines respectively for making their own tributes. Wales, N. Ireland FAs charged over poppy tributes

London (AFP) – FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Wales and Northern Ireland over the display of commemorative poppy symbols in their recent matches, the world governing body announced on Wednesday. Both countries’ football associations opted against allowing their players to wear black armbands with poppy symbols, but they have been charged anyway. Both have vowed to contest the charges.
