Most-watched soccer games on US TV for August 14-19, 2019

Atlanta United’s 3-2 victory over Club America in the 2019 Campeones Cup was watched by a total of 1.54 million viewers on Wednesday across Univision, TUDN and ESPN2. This was a 28% increase in total television audience when compared to the first edition of the tournament featuring Toronto FC and Tigres. Earlier in the day, Univision saw a drop in its total share of UEFA Super Cup viewership as it moved from an all-Spanish contest to an all-English one. Most-watched soccer games on US TV for August 1-11, 2019

NBC’s coverage of the opening round of Premier League fixtures set records as NBCSN registered a Total Audience Delivery of 1.01 million viewers for Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, making it the most-watched opening weekend Premier League cable match ever in the United States. It was also the most-watched Premier League cable broadcast in over 4 years. Total Audience Delivery measures linear and digital viewing. Most-watched soccer games on US TV for July 9-31, 2019

Catching up on the last few weeks of soccer action on US television, the 2019 MLS All-Star Game averaged just 808,000 viewers across FOX Sports 1, UniMás and TUDN. Total viewership was down 15% from last year with English-language viewership at its lowest point since at least 2012. Only 182,000 watched FS1’s English broadcast of the match, down 60% from last year’s All-Star broadcast on ESPN and down 57% from 2017’s also on FS1. FOX Sports 1’s five MLS broadcasts in July averaged 201,200 viewers, up 27% from an average 157,846 viewers for the networks prior 13 broadcasts of 2019. ... Read more

USWNT TV ratings for 2015-19 averaged 929K on US English-language television

With the final TV numbers from the US Women’s National Team’s victory over the Netherlands at the Women’s World Cup now available, it’s time to take a look at the TV ratings for the full World Cup cycle for the USWNT, as we did several months ago for the USA men’s team. On a year to year basis, the USWNT TV ratings have been somewhat volatile. The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup reached its conclusion on Sunday, breaking many records in the process particularly on the Spanish-language side. Sunday morning’s final delivered a total audience of 1.6 million viewers on Telemundo’s broadcast, making it the most-watched FIFA Women’s World Cup match in the history of Spanish-language television. The tournament, as a whole, also set a record for the most-watched FIFA Women’s World Cup ever on Spanish-language television, with Telemundo averaging 301,000 viewers per match across all of their platforms, a 27% increase from the 2015 World Cup in Canada. Sunday will go down in history as the day that the United States Women’s National Team won a record fourth Women’s World Cup. USA-Mexico Gold Cup Final scores 8.7 million viewers on FS1 and Univision combined

CONCACAF’s 2019 edition of the Gold Cup Final between Mexico and the United States averaged 8.78 million viewers across Univision and FS1 on Sunday night. The final averaged 5.9 million on Univision, making it the most-watched men’s soccer match of 2019 on any network. It outperformed last year’s men’s France-Croatia World Cup final (7/15/18) on Telemundo as well as out-delivering Sunday’s Copa America and Women’s World Cup finals combined on Telemundo.
