Tim Howard’s role at Colorado Rapids is hurting Zac MacMath’s career

Photo credit: AFP On July 4, 2016, Tim Howard made his return to Major League Soccer, debuting with his new team the Colorado Rapids in a match against the Portland Timbers. Normally, only paid subscribers are able to access games on MLS Live, but Major League Soccer decided to stream the game on its website in order to draw more attention to Howard and the league itself. Howard allowed MLS to make him its newest publicity stunt, and it only cost $8 million ($2.29 million per year for 3.5 years). While everyone says he will benefit the club as a ... Read more

Everton’s Tim Howard agrees return to MLS

Photo credit: AFP United States goalkeeper Tim Howard is to leave Everton at the end of the current season and return to Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids, the two clubs announced on Sunday. Everton confirmed that Howard will move to the Rapids on a three-and-a-half-year deal as a Designated Player on July 4, bringing to an end an association with the Goodison Park club that began in 2006. Tim Howard’s position at Everton has become farcical and must be dropped

Ironic cheers from supporters form a key part of the soundtrack to modern day soccer, but it’s rare to hear home fans direct these jibes in the direction of their own players. Tim Howard and Everton fans are a special case at the moment, though. Applause and whoops rung out from the Gwladys Street when the United States international came and claimed a cross midway through the first half during the 4-3 loss to Stoke City, having hopelessly flapped at rudimentary ball into the box just seconds earlier. The response from the 36-year-old, who is one of the most experienced ... Read more

Roberto Martinez has no intention of elevating Joel Robles above Tim Howard

Joel Robles’ Capital One Cup heroics may have sent Everton into the last eight for just the second time in 28 years, but he will be relegated to Tim Howard’s back-up again this weekend. Goalkeeper Robles has been preferred to Howard in this competition all year, and he had extra incentive to impress against Norwich after the American was culpable for both of Arsenal’s goals in the Toffees’ most recent loss. The cup stopper produced a fine one-handed save from striker Lewis Grabban’s header in the last minute to deny the Canaries a 2-1 win in normal time before he saved ... Roberto Martinez is setting dangerous precedent by persisting with Tim Howard

There seems to be something quite taboo when it comes to dropping high-profile players in the current age. The power players have in the game means the slightest discrepancy or disagreement can prompt some unrest, a few public quotes and eventually maybe even a transfer away. Throughout his career at Everton, Tim Howard hasn’t ever showcased the traits of a man who would kick up a fuss if he was left out of the XI. But with the aforementioned facets considered, it’s perhaps understandable Roberto Martinez is looking to keep a figure he perceives to be vital in the first team and ... Read more

Roberto Martinez defends poor Tim Howard display at Everton

Roberto Martinez leapt to the defense of Tim Howard after the Everton goalkeeper put in another sub-par performance in the 2-2 draw against Leicester. Howard was one of the stars of the World Cup last year, but his form has dipped considerably since he returned to England. The American was dropped for Joel Robles at the turn of the year after making a number of mistakes and he was at fault again at Goodison Park on Sunday as Everton grabbed a lucky point thanks to an 88th-minute equalizer. Just after Steven Naismith had put Everton ahead, Howard pushed Jamie Vardy's ... Read more
