Telemundo Deportes are interested in acquiring the Spanish-language rights to Copa America 2020 after successfully broadcasting the 2019 Copa America last summer. World Soccer Talk understands that discussions are underway to determine who will acquire the rights to this summer’s competition, which will be held jointly by Argentina and Colombia. Sunday’s Copa America Final between Brazil and Peru averaged 3.1 million viewers, ranking as the most-watched Copa America final since 2007 – tripling the 2015 final (Chile vs. Argentina, 1 million total viewers). For the 2019 tournament, Telemundo had the exclusive television rights in the United States after ESPN decided to broadcast the games exclusively via ESPN+. In the opening weekend of the 2019 Copa America, Telemundo Deportes yielded a total audience delivery average of 1.14 million viewers across Telemundo, the Telemundo Deportes website as well as the Telemundo Deportes and NBC Sports apps, which surpassed the 2015 opening weekend average by 132%.
