Glamour of the Galaxy a fitting end for ‘Indiana’ Ibra

London (AFP) – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has never shied away from the spotlight, so it is fitting that the outspoken Swede should choose Hollywood as the likely final chapter of a glittering career. Ibrahimovic, 36, became the latest in a long line of ageing stars to swap the heights of European football by leaving Manchester United for LA Galaxy on Friday. His arrival in Los Angeles was announced with stereotypical swagger as a full-page advert in the LA Times read simply: “Dear Los Angeles, You’re welcome.” The giant 6ft 4ins tall (1.95m) striker has an ego to match his towering physique, ... Then, not two hours later, the Galaxy’s new cross-town rivals answered. LAFC announced that it had landed former U.S. national team manager Bob Bradley as its first ever head coach. The battle to own Los Angeles is very much on – and, amazingly enough, it’s the Galaxy, with their six MLS Cups and global brand name, seem to be playing from behind. Crystal Palace-Leicester viewing number beats Orlando-LA Galaxy MLS game on FOX

The viewing number for MLS’ first over-the-air broadcast on English-language television in 2017 is in, and the news isn’t good. In previous years, whenever Premier League TV ratings in the United States have beaten MLS viewing numbers for games played during the same weekend, MLS apologists have insisted it was due to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal or another big Premier League club being featured. “Let’s see how a Crystal Palace or Hull City compare,” some would say. Well, for this past weekend on US television, we have an apples-to apples comparison. The viewing numbers released today show that a game ... Read more
