The battle for Premier League TV rights in the United States for seasons 2016-2019 has begun. According to a World Soccer Talk source, the Premier League sent out invitation to tender letters during the first week of July. The interested bidders — such as FOX Sports, ESPN, NBC Sports and others — will have an opportunity to begin the process of gathering materials and readying their bids. The numbers are in for FOX’s coverage of the 2015 Women’s World Cup final between the United States and Japan, and the viewing figure of 25.4 million means that it’s the most watched English-language broadcast ever of a soccer game on US television. The USA’s emphatic 5-2 victory over Japan in the Women’s World Cup final, America’s first Women’s World Cup championship since 1999, posted a 15.2/27 metered market household rating/share (7:00-9:00 PM ET), according to Nielsen. FOX’s first major tournament of its 12-year TV deal with FIFA has ended with a bang for the network. In its month-long coverage of the Women’s World Cup, FOX broke TV records and put on first-class coverage that will go a long way to giving soccer fans confidence that FOX knows soccer. There’s still room for improvement, but overall FOX surprised many, myself included, by how well they did. FOX adds Women’s World Cup Final programming and USWNT marathon

This Sunday’s broadcast of the 2015 Women’s World Cup Final between USA and Japan will begin an hour earlier (at 5pm ET instead of 6pm). Kickoff time remains at 7pm ET on the over-the-air FOX network. In addition to an hour extra of pre-match coverage, FOX continues after the match with a half-hour postgame show, followed by a one-hour edition of Women’s World Cup Tonight at 9:30 PM ET on FOX Sports 1. US women’s professional soccer league NWSL announces TV deal with FOX

On the heels of a successful run by the US Women’s National Team in the 2015 Women’s World Cup, FOX Sports has announced that a deal that includes broadcast rights to 10 games from the National Women’s Soccer League. The deal includes three regular season matches, all three games from the NWSL playoffs, two semi-final games and the final Championship game on October 1. FOX’s coverage of USA against China in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Women’s World Cup was watched by an audience of 5.7 million, which is the third most-watched women’s soccer game of all time on US television.
