FC Dallas and the birth of MLS 3.0

FC Dallas is one step away from the MLS Cup after recording the most points in the league’s ultra-competitive Western Conference in 2015. The team faces Portland in a two-leg tie with the right to represent the West in MLS Cup 2015 on the line. If Dallas advances and Columbus beats New York in the Eastern Conference final, Frisco will play host to MLS Cup 2015. For much of its twenty year existence, FC Dallas has been the butt of jokes among MLS fans. The original MLS club, formerly known as the Dallas Burn, has had a rocky history and ... Read more

With one of the smallest budgets in MLS, FC Dallas makes run for Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield

Before the start of the 2015 MLS season, no one picked FC Dallas to win the Western Conference, much less the Supporters’ Shield or MLS Cup. With three games remaining in the regular season however, FC Dallas (with a game in hand) is tied with LA Galaxy on 51 points atop the Western Conference and three points behind New York Red Bulls in the Supporters’ Shield race. Dallas’ results have been up and down just enough in 2015 to keep them flying under the radar most of the season, but now, as Taylor Twellman said during last Sunday’s ESPN2 broadcast ... Read more

New York City FC’s woes continue with 2-1 loss at FC Dallas [VIDEO]

The Designated Players from both teams took a backseat to less heralded teammates Saturday night as goals from Tesho Akindele and Michel propelled Dallas to a 2-1 home win. Fouls – 35 total – marred the first-ever visit of NYCFC to FC Dallas.  Both teams continue heading in opposite directions in their respective conferences, with FC Dallas tallying their third win a row, while NYCFC recorded a third straight loss. FC Dallas mustered the best scoring chances early on, but could not convert.  NYCFC goalkeeper Josh Saunders produced a key save in the third minute from a top-of-the-box half volley ... Read more

FC Dallas end 3 game losing streak with 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake

Penalty kicks and Fabian Castillo stole the show Saturday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas as FC Dallas defeated Real Salt Lake 2-0. It may not have been one of the marquee matchups of MLS’ 2015 “Rivalry Week” encore, but both teams entered the match desperately seeking points.  FC Dallas looked to end a three game losing streak and keep the Western Conference title within reach, while Real Salt Lake hoped to gain momentum after just snapping a three game losing streak of their own with a win over Seattle Sounders one week ago. Both teams saw plenty of ... Read more

FC Dallas defeats Houston Dynamo 2-0 in Texas derby [VIDEO]

Friday night’s Texas derby leg of MLS rivalry week was marked by incessant rain, six yellow cards (three for each team), and plenty of scoring chances for both sides.  FC Dallas won the first 2015 meeting between these growing rivals 4-1 at Houston on May 1.  However, Houston has enjoyed more success since that loss, earning 10 points while FC Dallas entered this match winless in their previous six games. For the second time this season, violent thunderstorms delayed the start of the match at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Lightning delayed kickoff 75 minutes and Toyota Stadium’s brand new turf (the ... 10 things we learned from MLS gameweek 13

Here are the 10 things we learned from week 13 of the Major League Soccer season. 1. Orlando City is the league’s best show This week started strongly for Orlando City – the club announced last Wednesday that its new soccer-specific stadium in downtown Orlando would be completely privately financed, built on land the club has bought from the city, and will have a capacity 25,000-28,000 instead of the 19,500 it was originally planned to seat. The stadium’s opening has been pushed back to the middle of 2016, meaning Orlando City will open next season at the Citrus Bowl. That ... Read more

10 things we learned from MLS gameweek 12

Here are the 10 things we learned from gameweek 12 of the Major League Soccer season. 1. Congratulations to Chris Wondolowski The wait for Wondo’s 100th MLS goal wasn’t a long one. Eight days after heading in 99 at Avaya Stadium, the San Jose Earthquakes striker hit the century mark at Levi’s Stadium by converting a penalty with a mix of aplomb and ferocity that can only be described as admirable. It’s time to move on from Belgium. Wondolowski is a true American original. Wondo’s grit and determination are the heartbeat of MLS – this is a player who played ... Read more

FC Dallas leave it late to defeat LA Galaxy 2-1

LA Galaxy traveled to Frisco to face FC Dallas Saturday night in the first 2015 meeting between the Western Conference foes. Both teams had unbeaten streaks entering the match (LA with five, FC Dallas with three), yet both teams are also dealing with injuries to key players. LA had to do without 2014 MLS MVP Robbie Keane, while Dallas missed their center-back and captain Matt Hegdes as well as his center-back partner Zach Loyd. Remarkably, the reigning MLS Champion Galaxy has not won on the road since August 20, 2014 and that streak continued as FC Dallas defeated LA 2-1. ... Read more
