Belgium is the latest country to witness a golden generation of players. Their current contingency of stars have the right amount of maturity, experience and skill to finally shine at a major international competition. Belgian Jupiler League makes return to US TV and streaming

EXCLUSIVE: The Belgian Jupiler League makes it return to Eleven Sports Network for the weekend of September 16-17, which marks the 7th round of the Championship. Eleven Sports first picked up Jupiler League rights last season in April during the Championship Playoff stage. Belgian match abandoned as firecrackers, lighters thrown

Brussels (AFP) – The Belgian league clash between Charleroi and Standard Liege was abandoned on Sunday after firecrackers and cigarette lighters were thrown by fans of the bitter rivals. Standard were leading 3-1 when the game was called off in the 67th minute, having already been halted twice. Lighters and firecrackers were thrown at Charleroi goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau, which led to Standard’s coach and players making a public appeal for calm via the stadium speakers. Paris (AFP) – Belgium hammered Estonia 8-1 to go clear in Group H, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal survived a scare before overcoming Latvia 4-1 in World Cup qualifying on Sunday. Amsterdam (AFP) – The Netherlands and Belgium played out a 1-1 friendly draw Wednesday where Premier League stars Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard struggled and the Dutch suffered injury setbacks ahead of a key World Cup qualifier. Benteke scores record seven-second goal

Faro (Portugal) (AFP) – Christian Benteke set a new World Cup record for the fastest goal in the competition, including the finals, scoring after seven seconds in Belgium’s qualifier against Gibraltar on Monday. The 25-year-old Crystal Palace striker picked up the ball in the first action of the Group H qualifier in Faro and racing towards goal with the Gibraltar defence in disarray left goalie Deren Ibrahim with no chance.
