Miami catching up with New York and Los Angeles as soccer media capital in US

The Miami area has in the past few years quickly emerged as the third soccer media hub in the United States rivaling Los Angeles and New York. For a long time, the area hosted GolTV, which was the first national 24-hour soccer network on cable and satellite TV. But following the contraction of MLS’ Fort Lauderdale-based Miami Fusion club in 2001 and a long absence of major friendlies from 2003 to 2010, the area became seen as somewhat of a soccer wasteland. But this is no longer the case. The decision of beIN SPORTS to set up headquarters in Miami instead of New ... Read more

Eibar Coach Gaizka Garitano Slams Atletico Madrid As ‘Cheats’

A video of Eibar coach Gaizka Garitano firing up his squad before their Week Two encounter with Atletico Madrid has gone viral over the past 24 hours. In the footage, Garitano is seen addressing his squad in training and urging them to be wary of the reigning La Liga champions playing style. They don’t want to play football; they’re all about blood, sweat and winning. That’s their mentality,” Garitano says while gesturing emphatically ... Read more

As a result, here’s my continuing weekly column that looks at some of the highs and ... Read more

Serie A Coverage in US Suffers Due to beIN SPORT Giving Higher Priority to La Liga & Ligue Un

Juventus took another step towards making the remainder of Serie A’s season, largely meaningless in terms of the title race, with a decisive 3-0 victory over their nearest title rivals AS Roma on Sunday. The match was competitive for the first half as Roma dominated possession and created a few scoring opportunities. But in the second half, Juventus pulled away. After the match the American audience on beIN SPORT was treated to another replay of a friendly that had taken place days earlier rather than any significant post-match analysis. The top of the table clash should have received more buildup ... Read more

Audio Problems On beIN SPORT Plague Beginning of Manchester United’s Capital One Cup Victory Against Stoke

Viewers of today’s Capital One Cup quarter-final on beIN SPORT between Stoke City and Manchester United were in for a surprise. Fielding the commentary team of Phil Schoen and Ray Hudson from the beIN SPORT studio in Florida, the audio feed from the ground kept cutting in and out and quite possibly seemed to be from another match. Perhaps the feed coming from the Football League was to blame, but the technical problem unfortunately reflected poorly on beIN who were sporting the network’s blue-chip commentary team for the match. The short weather delay gave beIN an opportunity to fix the ... Read more
