Alvaro Morata ready for a new lease of life at Atlético de Madrid

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata completed an 18-month loan deal to Atletico Madrid this week. The 26-year-old Spanish striker has linked back up with his boyhood club, in a move that could well re-energize his career and give him the spark he needs to return to good form. It’s no secret that Morata has struggled at Chelsea. He arrived at the club before the 2017-2018 season, just a few months after Chelsea had been crowned as Premier League champions. Huge amounts of pressure were instantly heaped on the young forward as fans expected him to fill the void of the then-exiled ... Read more

Why Chelsea need to pick Olivier Giroud ahead of Alvaro Morata

During Saturday’s early kickoff against Southampton, Chelsea were two goals down with less than a quarter of the game remaining. A lackluster first 45 minutes was a perfect reflection of their general dip in performance. The Blues were second best for large parts of the game. However, a moment of inspiration from Frenchman Olivier Giroud lifted the spirits of the players with the match ending in a 3-2 victory for the west London side. The result keeps their slim chances of making it into the fourth Champions League spot alive. The former Arsenal striker provided the late winner with a ... Read more

Personal kudos nothing if Spain don’t beat Italy – Morata

Montpellier (France) (AFP) – Alvaro Morata is joint top scorer at Euro 2016 but doesn’t care who hits the net if Spain beat a familiar Italy side to a coveted quarter-final place in their last 16 clash on Monday. “I couldn’t care less about the top scorer’s chart if we lose,” Morata said after the defending champions’ shock 2-1 defeat to Croatia left them second in Group D and facing a nightmare draw as they bid to retain their title. Against all hopes and expectations, Spain’s second-place finish means they now face what Morata, who has spent two seasons with ... Read more

Morata double boosts Spain hopes of Euro treble

Paris (AFP) – Alvaro Morata scored twice for defending champions Spain and Eder was Italy’s winner as the two booked places in the last 16 of Euro 2016 on another day marred by fan violence. Should Arsenal gamble £38 million on striker Alvaro Morata?

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will exercise their buy-back clause for former player Alvaro Morata. Morata departed Madrid for Juventus just two years ago and the cost to bring the 23-year-old back to his former club would be £22 million.  Los Blancos, however, do not have any intention of actually keeping Morata with the club if they trigger the buy-back clause.  It is thought that Madrid could potentially make up to £15 million in opting to resell Morata to another club. The aforementioned report (AS, Daily Mirror) is suggesting that both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are willing to pay Madrid ... Read more

Morata strikes as Juve retain Cup, keep Milan out of Europe

Milan (AFP) – An extra-time winner from late substitute Alvaro Morata saw Juventus to their 11th Italian Cup with a 1-0 triumph over AC Milan on Saturday. It means Juventus become the first Italian team to win successive league and Cup doubles, a year after ending a 20-year wait to achieve the feat. AC Milan’s defeat means the seven-time European champions failed to qualify for Europe next season. Sixth place finishers Sassuolo will be handed a Europa League place. Milan put everything into a match most expected to be one-sided in Juve’s favour but came away lamenting their failure to ... Read more
