Nantes (France) (AFP) – American international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya will join Philadelphia Union in the MLS after leaving Nantes, the French club announced on Wednesday.  “Alejandro Bedoya won’t be wearing Nantes colours this season. After three years… the US international has chosen to take a new direction in his career,” read a statement on the Ligue 1 side’s website. Bedoya, 29, arrived in France from Swedish outfit Helsingborgs in 2013 and scored 11 goals in 87 league appearances for Nantes.

US star sets aside Colombia ties for Copa opener

Santa Clara (United States) (AFP) – Born in the United States to Colombian parents, Alejandro Bedoya says one of his earliest childhood memories was cheering for the South Americans while wearing a Carlos Valderrama wig during the 1994 World Cup.  On Friday however there will be no question of divided loyalties when Bedoya pulls on an American jersey to line up against the country of his parents’ birth in the opening game of the Copa America Centenario.  In fact, the 29-year-old midfielder, who plays for French side Nantes, revealed that his extended family will all be cheering for the hosts.  ... Alejandro Bedoya ready to fire US men’s team to glory in Gold Cup; By Steve Davis

FRISCO, Texas – The United States national limped across the finish line to calendar year 2014 with losses to Colombia and Ireland. That stinking loss on the Emerald Isle was a particular bummer; the United States finished on the business end of a 4-1 beat-down to the Irish, the kind of European middleweight with which the United States should be competitive now, at the very least. But one American performance generally rose above his peers in those two contests: that of Alejandro Bedoya. As 2014 finished, the Nantes midfielder was coming off his best year in pro soccer. He played ... Read more

USMNT Fallout Of The Rangers Collapse

Scottish football is currently at a pivotal moment in its illustrious history. While the Scottish National Team has taken a dip (as evidenced by the thrashing the United States awarded the Scots in May), their Premier League has continued to be a mid-level league in Europe. The fate of one club, Rangers F.C., not only threatens the health of the SPL, but also leaves uncertain the future of several US Men’s National Team players. The SPL’s current popularity and quality appears contingent upon the Glaswegian rivalry between Celtic F.C. and Rangers F.C. The Old Firm Derby is a classic matchup ... Read more

Bedoya Making Move to Rangers and SPL

Photo by The Laird of Oldham After reports that a deal was off, officials for the Scottish Premier League defending champion Rangers announced today an agreement to acquire American international Alejandro Bedoya, pending successful completion of a U.K. work permit. Bedoya was an after-thought on the U.S. men’s national team until a Benny Feilhaber injury gave him a spot on the Gold Cup roster.  The Boston College graduate made the most of the chance, playing well in the midfield in the final rounds of the tournament and earning praise from coaches and the media.  The midfielder currently plays for Orebro in ... Alejandro Bedoya Set for Trial With Birmingham

Alejandro Bedoya may be on the move. The 23-year-old midfielder, currently playing with Örebro in Sweden, is on trial with Birmingham City, according to multiple reports. The time seems right. Bedoya has done well in the Allsvenskan, and he’s probably ready to test himself against better competition. But is a jump to the Premier League the right decision? It’s a brutally physical league, and the competition for playing time will be fierce. Still, if you read MLS Talk’s interview with him recently, you know he wants to play at the highest level. “I see myself still playing soccer at a ... Read more
