EPL Commentators on NBC: March 18 to March 20

There are just four Premier League games scheduled for this weekend, spread out over three days. Six clubs are set for FA Cup action, meaning the number of Premier League games dropped.

Unfortunately, this does no favors in cleaning up the table, although a club like Arsenal, which enters the weekend with two games in hand, will have the opportunity to makes one of those up.

Moreover, it is also the last weekend before an international break. Therefore, we will not Manchester United until their game on April 2.

Still, let’s look at the four games on the schedule in the Premier League.

The best of the bunch is Tottenham hosting West Ham. A couple of the more inconsistent sides in England’s top flight, both sides are just on the outside looking in when it comes to the Europa League and Champions League. However, Spurs do hold a game in hand. When called upon, these two clubs can appear to be among the best in the league, picking up points against the best opposition. Yet, neither side can avoid a slip as the league enters its closing stages.

Arsenal is also in that scrum of teams fighting for European qualification. The Gunners are in the driver’s seat for that ever-valuable fourth position as they travel to Villa Park on Saturday.

Wolves is the last team to have an ounce of hope for European qualification. Molineux is the host as Wolves welcomes a desperate Leeds side trying to stave off relegation. Brentford, just one spot above Jesse Marsh and Leeds, also must fight for survival at the current stage. The Bees look to pick up a result at the King Power against Jamie Vardy and Leicester.

Arlo is so toxic these days they hid his deployment then slid him in the back door.

Why can’t Twellman just say short sentences rather than going on and on and on and on about jibberish bullsh** !!!

Who the **** is running ESPN+ (US) these days?

ESPN Chile, ESPN Colombia, ESPN Peru and ESPN Dos Mexico/Central America viewers get Juan Manuel “Bambino” Pons and Daniel Angulo for Nottingham Forest v Liverpool.

(ESPN Argentina is airing an extended SportsCenter pre-match prior to River-Boca superclásico in order to sell “Pack Fútbol” subscriptions in Argentina instead of Nottingham Forest v Liverpool. Viewers in Argentina have to pay US$13 to watch FA Cup quarterfinals via Star+.)

ESPN+ (US) viewers got stuck with Ricardo Ortiz and the unintelligible mumbling of Mario Kempes despite having to pay an extra $6.99/month on top of expensive cable/satellite TV bundle.

Commentators for River Plate v Boca Juniors “Superclásico”

AFA Play / Torneos y Competencias Spanish-language “world feed” to be taken by Fanatiz, PrendeTV & Paramount+ US:

Raúl Taquini, Juan José Buscalia & Bárbara Roskin

English-language commentators on Paramount+ are TBA

English-language commentators for River Plate v Boca Juniors on Paramount+ US:

PxP: Juan Guillermo Arango (off monitor from South Florida)

Analyst: Peter Coates (off tube from Buenos Aires, Argentina)

I recommend watching “El Superclásico” in Spanish even if your Spanish-language comprehension is limited.

NBC Sports will use Arlo White and Stephen Warnock for Tottenham v West Ham

    Source: Arlo White via Twitter

    twitter(dot)com(slash)arlowhite(slash)status(slash)1505534786990923783

Telemundo will use Andrés Cantor and Manuel Sol if you are looking for another legal commentary option

It certainly feels more like the Premier League on a weekend when Rebecca Lowe is back hosting on NBC. And wow, Arlo is calling the Spurs v West Ham match starting soon with Stephen Warnock

    @Se_encienden_las_pasiones:

    What a bummer.

ESPN+ (US) ended up using its own Bristol, Connecticut-based Spanish-language commentators, Richard Méndez and Andrés Agulla, for Southampton v Man City instead of taking ESPN Sur (Buenos Aires, Argentina) broadcast with Juan Manuel “Bambino” Pons and Jorge Baravalle.

ESPN+ (US) is taking English-language world feed for Southampton v Man City: Steve Banyard and Stewart Robson.

That means ESPN+ (US) will use Jon Champion and co-comm TBA for Nottingham Forest v Liverpool.

FA Cup on ESPN+ Saturday March 19:

1:30pm ET – Middlesbrough vs Chelsea

English – Kay Murray will host from Bristol, CT. Pundits and reporters TBA. Commentators: Jon Champion & Taylor Twellman (off monitor from Bristol, CT)

(Champion and Twellman will also call an FA Cup match on Sunday TBA.)

Spanish – Jesús Humberto “Yisus” López & Francisco “Paco” Gabriel de Anda (off monitor from Mexico City)

(ESPN Mexico will assign commentators to all 4 FA Cup quarterfinals. ESPN Sur in Argentina will only assign its own commentators for Nottingham Forest v Liverpool. ESPN+ US will NOT have its own Spanish-language commentators for the FA Cup quarterfinals, as Fernando Palomo is in Madrid to call El Clásico with Hugo Sánchez and Martín Ainstein.)

    Yisus’ signature kickoff catch phases:

    1st half: “Señoras y señores, damas y caballeros y niños y niñas… ¡Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee encienden las pasiones!”

    2nd half: “Señoras y señores, damas y caballeros y niños y niñas… ¡Se reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-encienden las pasiones!”

Yisus also calls San José Earthquakes MLS games in Spanish for ESPN+ (US) and Star+ (Spanish-speaking Latin America), La Liga for ESPN+ (US), and the “B” game of any Liga MX Femenil back-to-back doubleheaders on ESPN Deportes (US) and ESPN+ (US) with his “duo dinámico” partner Eugenio Diaz.

I was just about to say how nice it is to be able to listen to John Champion without having to hear: “Tell you what, John” followed by some more of Twellman’s diarrhea of the mouth. Also, an Arlo less weekend is enjoyable.

    Watching USA on DirecTV…

Does anyone else notice the poor sync between video and audio?

Sparse Premier League-wise but I’ll enjoy the FA Cup games this weekend (and Spurs/West Ham)
