Portugal’s Primeira Liga will continue to be televised in the United States on GolTV pending the finalization of contracts, according to a World Soccer Talk source.

The rights to the Portuguese league had expired at the end of the 2019/20 season on July 26 when FC Porto finished the year as champions. GolTV had the U.S. rights to the Primeira Liga for three full seasons from from 2017/18 season to the close of 2019/20.

Prior to GolTV having the rights, Univision Deportes (now TUDN) aired select Primeira Liga games. When the rights moved to GolTV, featuring popular teams such as Benfica, Sporting CP and Porto, the news was welcomed by most fans of Portuguese football because GolTV increased the number of games televised to approximately five per week.

World Soccer Talk understands that an agreement has been reached between the Portuguese Primeira Liga and GolTV on a renewal deal, pending the finalization of paperwork.

GolTV is available via Fanatiz, fuboTV and via TV providers. The 2020/21 season is expected to begin Sunday, September 20.
