Washington (AFP) – D.C. United midfielder Chris Durkin signed for Belgian first-division side Sint-Truiden on Thursday after the 20-year-old American spent last season on loan to the European club.

The Major League Soccer squad signed Durkin, who captained the US under-17 squad, in 2016 at age 16 and put him into the lineup for his first 25 MLS matches in 2018.

Durkin scored his first professional goal in a 3-2 United victory over Colorado in April 2019 before being loaned last August to Sint-Truiden, where he scored one goal in 14 appearances.

“We wish him all the best with his goals and dreams of a career in Europe,” United general manager Dave Kasper said.
