Hot on the heels of the news that FOX Sports has acquired the rights to Xolos games in the United States for both English- and Spanish-language broadcasts, we can now reveal that FOX Sports has picked up more Liga MX TV rights. This time it’s for Club de Fútbol Monterrey, the oldest active team in Mexico, and Santos Laguna, the current Liga MX champions.
Importantly, FOX’s English- and Spanish-language coverage of Santos Laguna home games won’t begin until July 2019. But the good news is that FOX’s US TV rights for Monterrey will begin in late July 2018.
Monterrey’s home games in English-language will be televised on FS1 or FS2, while the Spanish-language broadcasts will be on FOX Deportes.
“We thank the Monterrey Club Board of Directors for the opportunity and confidence to be able to broadcast the Club’s games through FOX Sports in Mexico, Latin America and the United States,” said Carlos Martínez, President of FOX Networks Group Latin America. “The acquisition of these rights is part of the strategy of FOX Networks Group to offer relevant content for our subscribers.”
With Santos Laguna, the Spanish-language broadcasts beginning in July 2019 will be available on FOX Deportes. We haven’t been able to get confirmation yet regarding the English-language rights for Santos.
One of the most interesting developments to key an eye on will be how much of an impact Liga MX will have on MLS TV ratings. It’s possible that Liga MX and MLS working more closely together on partnerships such as the Campeones Cup could help MLS. On the other hand, MLS could see TV ratings start to dip as more sports fans see how more entertaining Liga MX is in comparison.
In Mexico’s Liga MX, the TV rights are handled on a club-by-club basis instead of league-wide.

Meh not much at all will have as much impact at Bundesliga. ESPN tried it in 2012-2015 ratings were Bundesliga Fix level.
I think this is more filler for the weekend nights/time-slots that FS1/2 does not have NASCAR, Supercross, MLB or college football. MLS games on FOX are generally on Sundays.
Any financials of these deals Christopher? This was the last I saw below
https://www.portada-online.com/2016/07/20/how-much-do-mexican-soccer-clubs-get-paid-for-u-s-broadcast-rights/
Monterrey were getting 3 mil US from Univision
Tijuana were getting 3.5 mil US from Azteca America
Santos were getting 4 Mil US from Univision
Thanks but I will keep watching La Liga and Bundesliga.
I said this in another post and I ‘ll repeat it here.
For all the talk of how popular Liga MX is in the US it’s mainly a cultural Mexican among 1st generation Mexicans in the US mainly the older ones. For proof look no further than 2012-2015 when ESPN tried to generate the ratings buzz seen on Univision/Telemundo for English language games and they only ended up averaging 50-60k on ESPN . The strong cultural affinity of Mexican-Americans for Liga MX will eventually wain over time as has already been evident with some of the younger 2nd and 3rd generation of fans starting to follow others leagues. Liga MX ratings are basically half of what they were 10-12 yrs ago. EPL is the ratings king for English language til MLS gets to a point in talent with the casual soccer fan that there is no longer a discernible difference in talent and not enough of a gulf to sway people like there now is.
liga mx should have all its matches in english.
Any games on big fox?
Nah just FS1 or FS2. Spanish on Fox Deportes only Christopher reported. Set up will mirror Bundesliga minus the two or three big Fox games.
What the la liga mx expire for US?
Honestly, I love it. I usually try to catch Monterrey and Club America games on Fubo, but since I’m a middle American, I speak no Spanish and I’ve been drawn more to the English language games on Facebook. Having these in English on Fox Sports will be great.
Plus, who is complaining about more soccer games on TV? I also watch EPL and Bundisliga. And Ligue 1. And La Liga. And Serie A. And the Belgian Pro League. And on and on and on. More games? Great! I’ll watch them!
What does this mean for Univision deportes? Will Liga MX games be availiable on that channel still or do they lose them?
Univision will not be airing Xolos and Monterrey games anymore, they will be exclusively on Fox Deportes in Spanish. They’re also losing Santos Laguna next year, also to Fox. Reportedly they will be losing Chivas next year as well but no network has been announced for Chivas yet.
