Bayern’s latest draw ‘unacceptable’ – Rummenigge

Berlin (AFP) – Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge describes as ‘unacceptable’ their 2-2 draw at ten-man Eintracht Frankfurt which leaves the German league leaders winless in their last three games.

Bayern host PSV Eindhoven in a key European match on Wednesday needing a win following last month’s 1-0 Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid and their 1-1 draw with Cologne a fortnight ago in the Bundesliga.

Having won the German league title for each of the last four seasons, Bayern have set themselves high standards and Rummenigge was unimpressed with the lacklustre first-half display at Eintracht on Saturday.

Bayern had 62 percent possession — their lowest in their ten games so far this season — and rode their luck, especially in the first-half, at Eintracht.

“That wasn’t Bayern Munich in the first-half, we can’t play like that,” fumed Rummenigge.

“It was unacceptable, we have to go out on the pitch with a different attitude.

“You have to stick the finger in the wound, every now and then.

“We must be satisfied that we took a point even after we played like that in the first half.”

“We have to show a different attitude on Wednesday or we will have problems.”

Bayern’s Arjen Robben and Frankfurt’s Szabolcs Huszti both scored first-half goals.

After Germany international Joshua Kimmich put Bayern back in front, Frankfurt had Huszti sent off, but Mexico midfielder Marco Fabian scored their crucial second equaliser 12 minutes from time.

Robert Lewandowski gave cause for optimism by kick-starting Bayern’s attack when he came on for the final 25 minutes, but even the Poland hot-shot could not break the deadlock.

New coach Carlo Ancelotti won his first seven games to set a new club record to get off to a flying start when he replaced Pep Guardiola this season.

The last three weeks have seen a nose dive in the team’s fortunes, but Rummenigge refused to blame the Italian for the dip.

“It has nothing to do with it, we have a lot of players who are injured, but we have such a broad, high-quality squad,” he said.

“So we do not have to apologise and look for the bug in the system.

“The best thing about the situation is that nothing has happened in the table,” he added with Bayern holding a two-point lead over their nearest rivals in Germany’s top flight.
