FC Barcelona has been invited to play in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game, a source confirmed to World Soccer Talk.
A final decision hasn’t been made yet, but if Barcelona does accept the invitation, it’s very likely that the All-Star Game will be played next summer at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Barcelona, currently ranked as the second richest club in the world, has to decide first whether they plan on playing exhibition games in Asia or North America next summer. If the club decides to play in Asia, that means it won’t play in the MLS All-Star Game, but there will be an opportunity to play in the 2018 MLS All-Star Game instead.
During recent years, MLS has played against a range of international clubs including Arsenal (2016), Tottenham (2015), Bayern Munich (2014), Roma (2013), Chelsea (2012) and Manchester United (2011 and 2010). Adding FC Barcelona to that list of prestigious teams would be a huge coup for the rapidly expanding US top flight league.

“Adding FC Barcelona to that list of prestigious list would be a huge coup for the rapidly expanding US top flight league.”
Dying of laughter here. To most soccer fans in the US, these “all star” games are just another chance for us to see their favorite European club(s) in the flesh. Nobody’s going to Soldier Field to watch Brek Shea trip all over himself while trying to do stepovers.
Barcelona B+ team if lucky.
Barcelona should have their full strength squad. Since the game will be at the end of July, clubs are preparing at that point for their season. Players will have plenty of rest since the only international tournaments going on are the Confederations Cup and Africa Cup of Nations. The only player possibly playing in the Confederations Cup is Stegen.
And he will have blundered so many times by the end of the group stage that he will come home fast.
I hate this….If the league wants to be at least viewed as a top league(yes i know its not) then it needs to stop putting its best players at risk to be embarrassed by another club. Just have it east v west or N. America v world inter-league only and be done. No one cares about any all star games in US sports so why try to be more if it devalues the league? If the all stars win its “well they are in pre season and playing B squad” and if they lose its ” see MLS sucks”. Lose lose IMO.
You’re mostly right. No one cares about the All Star Games, but people love the skills comps around them. Maybe they should focus on that some how
I belong to Barcelona fc
