Barcelona (AFP) – Barcelona on Thursday agreed a deal to sign Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes from Valencia. Also believed to be a target of bitter rivals Real Madrid, Gomes will cost around 50 million euros, according to media reports.

The 23-year-old, who started his career with Benfica, signed a five-year deal with Barcelona.

“FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement that will bring André Gomes to the Catalan capital. Gomes will formalise the deal and be officially presented as a new FC Barcelona player next week,” said the club in a statement.

“The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder thus becomes the fourth reinforcement for Barça ahead of the 2016/17 season following the additions of Galician midfielder Denis Suárez and French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne.”
