Most-watched live soccer games: May 13-18, 2016

During the past week, Liga MX and the English Premier League have been monopolizing the headlines with their record TV ratings as can be evidenced below.

Elsewhere, the English Championship had their best numbers of the season with several of the playoffs producing decent viewing figures. The anticipation is now building for the Championship Playoff Final on May 28 between Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday to see which of these Yorkshire clubs will be promoted to the Premier League next season.

FOX Sports continues to impress with their MLS TV ratings after posting a very respectable number for the Portland Timbers against New York City FC game.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be to see how well MLS does this weekend for its first-ever game on the over-the-air FOX network. How will FOX do? We’ll find out next week.

Here are the most-watched live soccer games on US TV for the week of May 13-18:

MLS has a long way to go but they’re making progress. Drawing 200k plus for a televised game used to be a rarity. Looks like there were 3 last week AND they were all on different networks.

Kudos to MLS for the progress, skiggt thoughy it may seem, and kudos to soccer fans in America for supporting games from all these different leagues.

Liga MX, the most popular football league in the US, by a mile…hopefully whoever is compiling the ‘must see games of the week’ list will keep that in mind and include a game or two from the Mexican league next week, as opposed to an MLS league that about 7 people will actually watch.

DC United is another TV ratings and attendance wasteland.
