It is fun to play out the remainder of the season in this epic title race following Arsenal’s come-from-behind 2-1 victory against leaders Leicester City on Sunday, which tightened the Premier League race. While projections are our best guess as of now, this has been a crazy Premier League season and given the tendency of teams near the bottom of the table to rise up at various points, most of these predictions are not as straightforward as one might assume.

So here goes…

Matchday 27 (February 27-28)

Leicester v Norwich – Leicester win
Manchester United v Arsenal – Manchester United Win
Tottenham v Swansea – Spurs win
Manchester City in League Cup Final vs Liverpool

1. Leicester 56
2. Spurs 54
3. Arsenal 51
4. Man City 47

(Keep in mind from here on out until the final matchday, Manchester City will have a game-in-hand which is against Newcastle United)

Despite Arsenal’s last gasp win against the Foxes in the previous matchday, the Gunners give the points right back as Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side rise up and win at Old Trafford. Leicester and Spurs win against sides battling the drop.

Matchday 28 (March 1-2)

Leicester v West Brom – Leicester Win
Arsenal v Swansea – Arsenal win
West Ham v Tottenham – Spurs win
Liverpool v Manchester City – Liverpool  win

1. Leicester 59
2. Spurs 57
3. Arsenal 54
4. City 47

Manchester City loses further ground with another humiliating loss to Liverpool, the third successive Premier League loss for Manuel Pellegrini’s side coming just days after the two face off at Wembley in the League Cup final. Spurs surprise West Ham with a close-shave win in their last visit to Upton Park. Arsenal have had some difficulty against Swansea in the past but this is far from a vintage Swans side and the Gunners will book three points.

Matchday 29 (March 5-6)

Watford v Leicester – Draw
Tottenham v Arsenal – Draw
Manchester City v Aston Villa – Manchester City win

1. Leicester 60
2. Spurs 58
3. Arsenal 55
4. City 48

Spurs never seem to close the deal against Arsenal but if they do win this game, they might just nick the title in the end. Leicester face a difficult slog at Watford but survive with a draw.

Matchday 30 (March 12-14)

Leicester v Newcastle – Leicester win
Arsenal v West Brom – Arsenal win
Aston Villa v Tottenham – Spurs win
Norwich v Manchester City – City win

1. Leicester 63
2. Spurs 61
3. Arsenal 58
4. City 51

It’s a straightforward matchday where all four sides should win. Arsenal might have the most difficult match of the four with Tony Pulis’ deep-lying Baggies side posing a potential tricky challenge.

Matchday 31 (March 19-20)

Crystal Palace v Leicester – Draw
Everton v Arsenal – Draw
Tottenham v Bournemouth – Spurs win
Manchester City v Manchester United – Draw

1. Spurs 63
2. Leicester 63
3. Arsenal 59
4. City 52

Leicester would beat Palace on current form but we must assume that the Eagles will fly again soon and put this current run of form behind them. Everton could beat Arsenal but the openness at the back that Roberto Martinez’s side plays with will give the Gunners a good opportunity to get a result. Manchester United goes to the Etihad, takes points off the Blues and make the herculean task for Manuel Pellegrini’s side even more difficult.

Matchday 32 (April 2-3)

Leicester v Southampton – Draw
Arsenal v Watford – Arsenal win
Liverpool v Tottenham – Draw
Bournemouth v Manchester City – Bournemouth win

1. Spurs 64
2. Leicester 64
3. Arsenal 62
4. City 52

At this point, we can drop Manchester City from the title race completely, however we will play it out anyhow to see where they finish. Leicester runs into a strong Southampton side chasing a European spot and drops points at home. Similarly Spurs drop points, but it’s a more reasonable result going to Anfield and getting something.

Matchday 33 (April 9-10)

Sunderland v Leicester – Leicester win
Tottenham v Manchester United – Draw
West Ham v Arsenal – Draw
Manchester City v West Brom – City win

1. Leicester 67
2. Spurs 65
3. Arsenal 63
4. City 55

Spurs and Arsenal both drop points in the reverse fixtures they lost opening day. Sunderland might prove a tricky match for Leicester as they are fighting relegation.

Matchday 34 (April 16-17)

Leicester v West Ham – Leicester win
Arsenal v Crystal Palace – Arsenal win
Stoke v Tottenham – Draw
Chelsea v Manchester City – Chelsea win

1. Leicester 70
2. Spurs 66
3. Arsenal 66
4. City 55

Matchday 35 (April 23-24)

Spurs find Stoke a tough match while Leicester and Arsenal both win. Manchester City lose to Chelsea as Guus Hiddink’s team continues its charge up the table.

Leicester v Swansea – Leicester win
Manchester City v Stoke – City win
Sunderland v Arsenal – Draw
Tottenham v West Brom – Tottenham win

1. Leicester 73
2. Spurs 69
3. Arsenal 67
4. City 58

Sunderland prove a plucky side and hold Arsenal at the Stadium of Light in one of the stunners of the late season. Everyone else holds serve. At this point, the Foxes lead is just four points with three tough fixtures remaining. Everyone is holding their collective breath.

Matchday 36 (April 30-May 1)

Arsenal v Norwich – Arsenal win
Chelsea v Tottenham – Draw
Manchester United v Leicester – Manchester United win
Southampton v Manchester City – Draw

1. Leicester 73
2. Arsenal 70
3. Spurs 70
4. City 59

Arsenal draw closer to the top with Manchester United’s victory over Leicester at Old Trafford. Spurs get a valuable point against rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but time is running out on Maurcio Pochettino’s title-winning dreams.

Matchday 37 (May 7-8)

Leicester v Everton – Draw
Manchester City v Arsenal – Draw
Tottenham v Southampton – Draw

1. Leicester 74
2. Arsenal 71
3. Spurs 71
4. City 60

Draws all around here. If Arsenal can win this match against Manchester City, which by this time has players making summer plans, they can snatch the title the following week.

City game-in-hand
Newcastle v Manchester City – City win

1. Leicester 74
2. Arsenal 71
3. Spurs 71
4. City 63

Newcastle will be fighting relegation but they have lost 12 successive Premier League matches to Manchester City, a remarkable record statistically.

Matchday 38 (May 15-16)

Chelsea v Leicester – Draw
Arsenal v Aston Villa – Arsenal win
Newcastle v Tottenham – Spurs win
Swansea v Manchester City – Manchester City win

1. Leicester 75
2. Arsenal 74
3. Spurs 74
4. City 66

Leicester wins the title with a disciplined draw at Stamford Bridge and lift the trophy with the fewest points for a title-winner since Manchester United in the 1996-1997 season (also 75 points).
