Though the spotlight is currently on Shakhtar Donetsk’s 26-year old Brazilian attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira, with the Reds currently in negotiations for the £24.6 million star, here’s a look at some other potential targets Liverpool could pursue before the winter window closes in 10 days time.

Target 1: Alvaro Morata (Juventus)

The Telegraph reported that Liverpool are interested in a swoop for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata. The Reds have previously targeted the 23-year old Spaniard when Brendan Rodgers was in charge, battling it out with Arsenal for his signature. Signing for Juventus in 2014 for £20 million from Spanish giants Real Madrid, the youngster has notched three goals and five assists in all competitions for Massimiliano Allegri’s side this season. He can also play on both flanks, not just as a lone striker, something that would suit Liverpool. Gazzetta Dello Sport report Jurgen Klopp has tabled a €60 million bid for the hot shot.

Target 2: Granit Xhaka (Borussia Monchengladbach)

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka. The Reds are said to be rivaling Arsenal for his signature. The 23-year old, born in Basel and of Albanian decent, is said to be worth £14 million, according to Transfermarkt, and has made 23 appearances this season, bagging three goals and one assist. Xhaka could offer the creativity Liverpool are lacking and can play in a number of positions across the middle of the park, from defensive to attacking. His current employers are said to want a sum in the region of £38 million, which could dampen a deal, but director of sport Max Eberl has admitted Xhaka could leave the club if a tempting offer is received.

Target 3: Javier Hernandez (Bayer Leverkusen)

According to the Metro and Daily Star, the Reds continue to be linked with a surprise swoop for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez. The 26-year old has previously been linked with a move to Merseyside, but Jurgen Klopp is also said to be a keen admirer. The fact the “little pea” has Premier League experience is something the German will see as a huge plus. Hitting 22 goals for club and country, Hernadnez has been in sensational form and is somebody who could help Liverpool get back to their goal scoring ways. If a deal was to be done, then it would happen in summer, as the player is unable to move having played for both Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen this season. The Mexican joined the Bundesliga side in a £7.3m deal in August. Arsenal had been keen earlier on the season, but it seems Liverpool have stole a march. He would be the perfect option for the Reds frontline.

Meanwhile…

The Metro and Daily Mirror claim Liverpool have slapped a £3 million price tag on misfit striker Jerome Sinclair. The youngster settled for a place on the bench in the Emirates FA Cup versus Exeter and didn’t feature, suggesting his Anfield career could be over. His contract is up in the summer and Liverpool are said to want a deal to happen quickly, otherwise he could depart for no transfer fee. Waford have been heavily linked with a move but Bournemouth, Espanyol and Groningen have also joined the race for the 19-year old in recent times.

he Daily Express has reported Joao Carlos Teixeira is ready to stay at Anfield, fight for his place and impress Jurgen Klopp after impressing in Wednesday’s win over Exeter City, The German boss was pleased with his performance against the League Two side, after which Klopp said, “I like Joao. He’s a good footballer. Players need matches. I would like to work longer with him. But we have to see what he wants”. The 23-year old later told the Liverpool Echo: “We are in conversations at the moment. My contract runs out at the end of this season. I want to stay but we will see what happens”.
