US international DeAndre Yedlin is set to make his Sunderland debut this evening when the Black Cats play Manchester City in the Third Round of the Capital One Cup.

Yedlin, who joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Tottenham, has been training with the Wearside club since moving to the Northeast of England in early September.

“I was already expecting to let DeAndre play,” said Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat. “But I will certainly try some positions with different players.

“Maybe we have to start with totally different type of players because we’re playing in quite an attacking way.

“They need wins. The new players have to win a game, otherwise other people start moaning and I can understand that. On Saturday, they did not show me that they wanted to play. Not just the new ones, everyone.”

While Yedlin hasn’t had an opportunity to make an appearance for Sunderland this season, it’ll be interesting to see whether Advocaat decides to play Yedlin as a right full back or right winger. Given that Manchester City are the favorites to win the League Cup game, this may be Yedlin’s best and only chance to make a positive impression on Advocaat in the Capital One Cup this season.

For soccer fans in the US, the game will be shown live on beIN SPORTS at 2:45pm ET. If your TV provider doesn’t offer beIN SPORTS, or if you want to watch the game on your smartphone, tablet or computer, sign up for a free 24-hour trial to fuboTV.

Sunderland center-back Younes Kaboul will miss today’s game due to suspension.
