Marseille have signed Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old joined Real from Cruzeiro in January and made nine appearances last season, including starting against Schalke in the Champions League.

He will be tasked with adding creativity to a Marseille side which has been shorn of playmakers Andre Ayew, Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet since the end of last season.

A statement on om.net read: “Real Madrid and Olympique de Marseille have agreed a temporary loan of the player Lucas Silva until June 30, 2016.”

According to reports in France, the deal does not include an option for a permanent transfer.

Lucas twice won the league in his homeland before moving to Europe and also helped Brazil’s Under-20 side win the 2014 Toulon Tournament.

He is OM’s second loan signing since Michel replaced Marcelo Bielsa as OM coach. Winger Remy Cabella arrived as part of the deal which took Thauvin to Newcastle.
