Jonathan de Guzman’s agent has revealed that his client could leave Napoli to join Sunderland on loan.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from Naples just one year after arriving at the San Paolo stadium.

The Holland international made just 12 Serie A starts for Napoli last season and is also a reported target of Marseille.

De Guzman’s representative, Fabian Parisi, has now confirmed that while the transfer to Sunderland has not yet been completed, an agreement is close.

When asked about Sunderland’s interest in De Guzman, Parisi told Italian radio Kiss Kiss: “It’s true there’s an agreement for the player to go on loan with a purchase option included for the English club, but we are all working towards finding a solution for De Guzman, who is not in the plans of (Napoli coach Maurizio) Sarri for this season.

“Sunderland is there and so is Marseille and there are other options.

“We will choose the best option for us and for Napoli.

“Jonathan is an attractive player in the transfer market and we will need a few more days to decide.”

De Guzman joined Napoli from Villarreal last summer in a reported €6 million after spending the two previous seasons on loan at Swansea.

He is under contract with the Serie A outfit for another three seasons.
