Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph will undergo Manchester City medical this weekend

Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph appears to be on the verge of a move to Manchester City just six months after signing a lengthy contract extension with the midlanders.

Press Association Sport understands Villa had been expecting a bid for the 25-year-old, who did not travel to the club's training camp in Portugal on Thursday, all week.

It seems City have now triggered an £8million release clause included when Delph signed a new four-and-half-year deal in January.

City are keen to boost their home-grown quota following the loss of James Milner to Liverpool and Frank Lampard to New York City and Delph has been on Manuel Pellegrini's radar for some time.

The squad are currently in Australia for the start of their pre-season preparations and Delph is expected to join them once the formalities on his deal have been completed.

They are also monitoring the situation with Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, who returned to training on Friday after two days' absence with illness.

City have had two bids rejected, the last an offer of £40million, but are reluctant to meet the Reds' £50million valuation.

As it stands Liverpool expect Sterling to be on the squad's flight to Thailand on Sunday for their pre-season tour.

Another mediocre signing by this Catalan fraud Begiristan. This is his third summer and still not one marquee world-class signing.
And to think this headline is right next to one about the rags signing Schweinsteiger.

Open your bloody checkbook and pay whatever Juve want for Pogba already. £50m, £70m, makes no difference in the end! Pay £100m if needs be! Especially now that FFP doesnt affect us and is getting shot down. If we can pay 20m for crap like Jovetic and Navas, we can afford to pay whatever it takes for an actually top class player.

Watch us miss out on De Bruyne too, who a month ago we were nailed on for, because we are screwing around offering equal money for Raheem Sterling!

Oh yeah Isco might be available too! Next David Silva and we instead will let him alone and pay twice as much for Sterling.
