The International Champions Cup makes its return this summer, with matches scheduled in Australia, Canada, China, England, Italy, Mexico and the USA, featuring some of the biggest clubs in world football.

Last year’s tournament in Canada and USA proved such a success with eight teams involved that this season’s tournament has increased to feature 15.

World Football Giants

Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid will compete with Premier League billionaires Manchester City and Italian Serie A runners-up AS Roma in Australia where the Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the three matches between 18-24 July.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground has a capacity of 100,000.

A Milan derby will take place on 25 July in China as AC Milan and Internazionale will fight it out at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen. Real Madrid are also included in the group, playing their first match only three days after competing in Australia.

The tournament kicks off in California, USA on 11 July where the LA Galaxy will face Mexican side Club America at the StubHub Center where Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could play. Three days later, the San Jose Earthquakes will face the Mexican side over in San Jose, California.

Premier League and world footballing giants Manchester United will play their first match on 17 July, also against Club America of Mexico. CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks is expecting to be close to full capacity to watch that match. Club America return to action on 28 July, facing Benfica at the 95,000 Azteca stadium in Mexico City.

North America

North America plays host to the majority of the games where La Liga champions Barcelona, Premier League champions Chelsea, Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica, French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, Italian side Fiorentina, and MLS side the New York Red Bulls will all play.

The 92,000 Pasadena Rose Bowl plays host to LA Galaxy vs Barcelona (21 July) – the biggest stadium hosting a game in the USA this year.

A total of 642,134 fans showed up to watch the 13 matches (average of 49,395 per match) last summer with the tournament taking place between the end of the World Cup and the start of the European domestic league seasons.

Chelsea have matches in July versus New York Red Bulls (New Jersey), Paris Saint-Germain (North Carolina) and Barcelona (Maryland) in the USA.

The tournament concludes on 5 August when Chelsea host Fiorentina at Stamford Bridge in London, England. Three days earlier the Italian side are hosting Barcelona in Florence.

2014 International Champions Cup

Manchester United were last season’s winners, beating Premier League rivals Liverpool 3-1 in the final in front of 51,000 at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Earlier in the tournament, a record attendance of 109,318 at the Michigan Stadium, USA saw Manchester United beat Real Madrid 3-1. Superstars included Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Wayne Rooney, David de Gea and Juan Mata.

This year, Manchester United will face Club America (Seattle), San Jose Earthquakes (California), Barcelona (California) and Paris Saint-Germain (Illinois).
