Manchester United have confirmed they reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for forward Memphis Depay.

The deal for the 21-year-old Dutch international is believed to be for £22 million and will be made official once the summer window opens in June.

PSV sporting director Marcel Brands commented about the agreement on the Dutch club’s official website.

“We’re very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge momentum,” Brands said.

“Memphis has come through all the PSV youth teams and has played an important part in securing the Eredivisie title this year. He’s a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition.

“In a sporting sense, we are obviously losing a fantastic player who is of great value to the team, but PSV is happy to allow him to make this wonderful step.”

Depay has been steadily linked with a move to United, even though in recent weeks Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool reportedly entered the race for the star winger.

Back in March, Depay sparked a social media storm when he ‘favorited’ a tweet linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old would quickly remove the activity from his Twitter account. But it instantly raised questions about the young player’s future in Holland.

Depay has been labeled “the Dutch Ronaldo”, and has also drawn comparisons to Holland international teammate Arjen Robben.

In February, PSV manager Phillip Cocu admitted Depay would leave the club in the summer, and most agreed a reunion with Louis van Gaal (his former Dutch national team coach) was likely to happen.

Depay has scored 49 goals in 122 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, and scored twice during last summer’s World Cup in Brazil – becoming the youngest Dutchman ever to do so in the competition.

The 21-year-old will become the fourth player to move from PSV to United following the footsteps of Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Park Ji-sung.
