There is good news for Barcelona supporters as club’s doctors have cleared Lionel Messi to play against Celta Vigo on Sunday.

There had been doubts about the forward’s availability this weekend due to swelling in his right foot which prevented him from participating in Argentina’s friendlies against El Salvador and Ecuador over the international break.

Messi’s last appearance on the pitch was during Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on March 22.

The Argentine reportedly picked up a knock during the second leg of his side’s Champions League tie against Manchester City but pushed to be included in the first-place showdown against Real Madrid.

Even though Messi has been cleared to play, the forward is still feeling pain in his right foot and the swelling has yet to decrease. The Argentine has had trouble putting on his boots in recent days and only felt comfortable wearing trainers.

That said, the indication from Barcelona is Messi will be included in manager Luis Enrique’s squad against Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Barcelona will enter the contest with a four-point lead over second place Real Madrid with ten games to play.

The club is preparing for an important stretch of the season which will see them play eight games in 25 days, including a Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain, and important league fixtures against Sevilla and Valencia.

Programming note: Celta Vigo vs. Barcelona will be shown LIVE on Sunday starting at 1:55pm EST on beINSPORTS en español and DishWorld.
