James Rodriguez returns to Real Madrid training after broken foot

James Rodriguez has begun the process of returning to the Real Madrid lineup after the midfielder took part in training earlier today.

Back in February, the Colombian was ruled out of action for two months after scans revealed a break in the fifth metatarsal of the right foot. The injury occurred during the 26th minute of Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Sevilla at the Bernabeu.

Earlier today, James joined the Real Madrid players who are not on duty for their respective international teams in a training session at Valdebebas.

In all nine outfield players participated in the workout under the direction of Carlo Ancelotti and his staff. The group carried out specific training exercises, stretches and muscle strengthening before completing ball work.

James and his teammates played a game of foot-volley before working on different combination exercises and ball control. They they played several half-pitch matches where they had to try and score into little nets that had been placed out on the pitch.

It is too early to determine when James will return to first team play. But there is no question Ancelotti will be looking forward to seeing the influential midfielder return to his match day squad.

After a stellar performance during last summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Real Madrid signed James from AS Monaco for a reported fee of £60 million.

The Colombia international had featured in 30 matches for Real Madrid, scoring 12 goals and tallying nine assists in all competitions while logging close to 2,000 minutes.
