Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema believes his side are on “great form” right now, but will need “a bit of luck” to secure all three points against Barcelona this weekend.

While the majority of his teammates have refused to talk to the media this week, Benzema shared his thoughts on the upcoming El Clasico showdown in an interview with Bwin.com.

“We know there’s a lot of pressure on us, but that’s normal,” the France international said. “We’re going to prepare well for the game, together in order to go to Barcelona and win.”

“We’re on great form right now. We’re Real Madrid, the greatest team ever. We just need a bit of luck, that’s all.”

Despite Benzema’s positive assessment, the reigning European and world champions have not been able to replicate the form which saw Madrid win 22 straight matches in all competitions prior to the New Year.

In recent weeks, Madrid have been leapfrogged in the league standings by Barcelona, whistled and jeered at home; and have heard their manager’s future at the club be brought into question by the Spanish press.

Earlier this week, team captain Iker Casillas and vice-captain Sergio Ramos instructed the team to close ranks in order to protect the team from any further attacks from the media, while also safeguarding against any player differences which could be brewing within the squad.

The veteran leaders demanded their teammates to set aside any personal differences they may have in order to ensure the team will be fully focused and more effective for this weekend’s massive encounter against Barcelona.

Benzema believes the re-introduction of Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos into Madrid’s lineup is just what the team needs in order to reverse recent trends.

“Luka is a great player who always looks to attack,” the France international added. “Strikers love playing alongside him because he’s world class and his final ball is amazing.”

“With regards to Sergio Ramos, we’re a team and we’ll work together to defend and stop Barca’s attacking players. He won’t be on his own; it’s great that he’s fit to play.”

Benzema went on to say his relationship with striker partners Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo is fine, even though the attacking trio have seen their production decrease drastically since that start of January.

“We work together, attack and defend,” Benzema concluded. “We had good games when we score and others when we don’t, but we always play for the team. We only think about working together so we can win together.”
