Martin Odegaard scored his first goal for Real Madrid during the club’s B side victory over Barakaldo.

The Norwegian wonderkid, who signed in January after a tremendous tug-of-war with numerous European clubs, has trained with both the senior squad and the reserves since his arrival in Spain.

The 16-year-old has now made three appearances for Real Madrid Castilla, but has yet to feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s match day squad – even though the manager named the teenager to his match day squad for the Champions League knockout stage.

Yesterday afternoon, it took Odegaard only seven minutes to make his mark during the match against Basque club. The midfielder lifted the ball over the on rushing goalkeeper with his right foot to opening the scoring in the contest.

He also assisted Castilla’s third goal before being substituted in the 82nd minute, as Real Madrid’s reserve side snatched a convincing 4-0 win over their Segunda B Division opponents.

Wearing the number 10 shirt, Odegaard made his official debut earlier this month, assisting two goals during a friendly against Chinese side Beijing Guoan. He followed that performance up with a disappointing effort against Athletic Bilbao B the next week. But yesterday’s effort has all but erased any lingering memories of that match.

“It’s great to score my first goal here. It’s been amazing,” Odegaard said following the game.

“[Zinedine] Zidane is a great coach, I feel very comfortable here. It’s easy training with the best players in the world.”

“[Carlo] Ancelotti is the best coach for Madrid and a great person, everyone can learn something from him.”
