Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Fabio Coentrao will miss Saturday’s match against Deportivo La Loruna, as well as next week’s Champions League first leg at FC Shalke 04.

The Portugal international joins Sergio Ramos, James Rodriguez, Sami Khedira and Luka Modric on the club’s injured list.

Modric is reportedly nearing a return to Madrid’s lineup after spending the past few months recovering from a hip injury. But Ramos, James and Khedira were all diagnosed last week and are set to miss considerable time away from the first team.

James will be sidelined for two months after having surgery on his broken right foot, while Ramos is ruled out for six weeks after tearing his hamstring during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Sevilla; and Khedira will miss the next three weeks after injuring his thigh against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

The good news for Real Madrid is Marcelo and Pepe have both returned to training, with the Brazilian left-back eligible for selection in Carlo Ancelotti’s side this weekend. Marcelo completed his one-match ban for yellow card accumulation, and Pepe has recovered from the rib injury he picked up in January – although the Portugal international will not be fit enough to participate in the Deportivo match.

Programming note: Real Madrid vs. Deportivo La Coruna will be shown LIVE on Saturday starting at 11:55am EST on beIN SPORTS and DishWorld.
