Shortly after Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday, armed burglars attempted to break into the home of Angel di Maria while the winger and his family were eating dinner.

The raiders were reportedly armed with scaffolding poles and allegedly tried to break through the patio doors of the Argentina international’s home in Cheshire. They escaped empty-handed and have yet to be captured or identified.

According to a spokesman for the Cheshire Police: “At 7:30pm on Saturday, police received reports of a burglary at a house in the Chelford Road area of Prestbury.”

“A number of offenders tried to gain access to the property by trying to smash the back door. The alarm was raised before the men got inside and they fled the scene.”

Di Maria had just arrived home from Saturday’s match against Leicester City at Old Trafford, and his family were understandably “shaken” by the event which took place while they were eating dinner.
