Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has told the Catalan daily SPORT that he has not been offered a contract renewal by the club, with the defender’s current deal set to expire in the summer.

The 31-year-old arrived back in Barcelona this afternoon after spending his holiday at home in Brazil and was immediately mobbed by reporters.

According to SPORT, Alves was “visibly upset” while answering questions about his future at the club where he has spent the past seven seasons. The Brazilian full-back has made 200 appearances for Barcelona since arriving from Sevilla in July 2008.

During that time, La Blaugrana have won four La Liga titles, four Spanish Supercopas, three Copa del Reys, two Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups and a UEFA Super Cup.

“I have a contract until the summer,” Alves told SPORT. “I am a Barcelona player and I don’t want to talk about the renewal. I want to be as good as possible during the next six months; after that we will see.”

“Barcelona have not made an offer to renew.”

Asked if that disappointed him, Alves responded: “No, that doesn’t disappoint me. That is football. We have to finish with the same dignity that we began with.”

The defender has been sidelined since before Christmas with a hamstring injury but informed reporters that he is recovering quickly and hopes to be resume training with the squad in the coming days.
