FC Barcelona has come to an agreement with radio giant TuneIn to broadcast the team’s Digital Barça audio feed, which allows listeners around the world to access home and away matches for free. TuneIn will stream La Liga and UEFA Champions League matches in English, Spanish, and Catalan languages.

TuneIn’s Vice President, Kevin Straley, announced the deal by saying, “We are thrilled to be working with FC Barcelona to build a 24/7 channel where fans can listen to their content worldwide. Barca is one of the preeminent teams in all of sports with a rich history and global fan base. Through our new follower model this partnership will allow TuneIn’s 50 million monthly active users to follow their club and be alerted any time a big match is being broadcast.”

Didac Lee, Barcelona’s Director of Media and Communication, echoed Straley’s thoughts stating, “Being able to listen to Barça games from anywhere in the world is a service that millions of our fans will enjoy. TuneIn will take the club to all those supporters and help to project its global dimension.”

With Barcelona being one of the most popular sports teams in the world (over 91.3 million followers combined on Facebook and Twitter), the deal with TuneIn expects to be a major agreement. Although Barça is obviously a Spanish club, they have a massive following from around the world, including an abundant amount of fans in English speaking countries. The decision to stream matches in both English and Spanish (as well as Catalan) languages appears to be a very business savvy choice.

TuneIn, a California-based company, offers over 100 thousand stations, including four million on-demand programs. The internet radio company can be accessed at TuneIn.com, or downloaded using applications on iPhone, Android, or Blackberry devices.
