In a story that has been gathering steam all weekend, Sky Sports Italia is now reporting that Cardiff City defensive midfielder Gary Medel is flying to Italy to finalize a move to Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Welsh club since it was relegated at the end of last season.

There had been rumored interest from clubs in Serie A, but Cardiff City were having difficulty finding teams who would meet their asking price of £10 million for the player.

The Chile international became an even hotter property following his solid performance during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Over the weekend, Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was questioned about Medel’s future in Wales. The boss of the Welsh club didn’t hold any hopes of retaining the talented defensive midfielder.

“We have made it clear, we want our price or we want Gary,” Solksjaer told Sky Sports.

“But we do expect an announcement to be made soon.”

Medel joined Cardiff from the Spanish side Sevilla last August for £11 million and made 34 appearances during the Bluebirds inaugural season in the Premier League.

Expect an official announcement of the signing either later tonight or tomorrow.
