Xavi Close to Finalizing 3-Year Deal to Join New York City FC

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi is close to finalizing a three-year deal with MLS team New York City FC, which would see the 2010 World Cup winner team up with fellow Spaniard David Villa.

Barcelona and MLS are trying to finalize the deal before Xavi is scheduled to return to Barcelona training on Thursday, according to Spanish publication Sport. The website writes that both Xavi and Barcelona want the deal to go through, but one of the final decisions is regarding a farewell match so fans can bid adios to one of the greatest players in the history of FC Barcelona.

A final decision to complete the transfer could be expected between now and Thursday.

OK, so he is old. But he was still playing for Barcelona, so I’m pretty sure he’s good enough to play in MLS.

I’m not crazy about Lampard joining and would rather they spend the DP money on a proper defensive mid/center back.

Yet to play a game in the league, he and Lampard have already been nominated as MLS All-Stars in 2015.

Yep two old farts that are no longer effective. Just what MLS ordered.

They still might tear it up.

Should we just change the name to The Pensioner’s League?
