West Bromwich Albion will be heading to the United States this summer for 11 days of preseason training and games where the team will be based in Sacramento, California from July 17-27.

In addition to the training camp, the Baggies will play two friendlies against USL pro-side Sacramento Republic, who are currently in fifth place of the third-tier in U.S. soccer and will look to continue their recent success as their season ends in early September. This is West Brom’s fifth consecutive season competing in the Premier League and new manager, Alan Irvine’s first at The Hawthorns.

Both friendlies will take place at newly-opened Bonney Field, with a capacity of 8,000, on July 21 and then July 25.

This is the second time in four years West Brom will train in the United States before starting their season.

Technical director Terry Burton is optimistic about the upcoming season and another successful trip to California saying, “With another season of Premier League football to look forward to, this trip will provide Alan Irvine and his coaching team with a good platform to get his ideas across to the players.”

The most recent time the Baggies were in the United States during preseason was before the 2011-2012 Premier League season where they toured Oregon as well as California.

The team has a lot of preparation under a new manager to undertake in order to improve upon their 17th place finish in the Premier League last season, and Burton thinks the training location will help the team.

“As always in preseason, there will be plenty of hard work to get the players in shape for the challenge ahead and the weather over in the USA in July will also offer a good climate to train and play in.”

The Baggies appointed Irvine as manager in June after much speculation that Tim Sherwood would be chosen to take over at the Hawthorns.

Tickets will be made available for the matches through the team’s official website in the coming days.

West Bromwich Albion join a long list of Premier League teams playing in the United States this summer, which include Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Swansea City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
