Food and football – just sounds right, doesn’t it? Having great food when you’re watching the match is an age-old tradition, formed in stadiums, pubs and living rooms across the world.

Sometimes, victory is so close you can almost taste it. But what if there’s more to it than that – what if our taste buds could actually predict the outcome of matches?

That’s the theory behind Foody Forecaster – JUST EAT’s World Cup prediction game, found at foodyforecaster.just-eat.co.uk.

JUST EAT, the world’s leading online takeaway service, has pitted one national dish against another to predict the outcome of World Cup clashes. If one country beats another in the food stakes, could it mean triumph on the pitch?

Think it sounds a little crazy? Well, I found the results quite convincing.

On Matchday 4, it was Honduran conch soup or the much-loved crêpe. The result? A delicious 3-0 win for the French.

Then on Matchday 11, I chose mussels and fries over Russian borsch. The Belgians duly picked up all three points.

And who wouldn’t choose a good, old-fashioned, all-American hamburger over Ghana’s fufu? (Sorry Ghanaians!)

Still not satisfied? Give it a go yourself then! To sweeten the deal, JUST EAT are offering £500 in free takeaway vouchers to one lucky winner. Try it at foodyforecaster.just-eat.co.uk.
