U.S. Men’s National Team captain Clint Dempsey released a new single today with fellow rapper XO entitled “It’s Poppin.” Dempsey, aka Deuce, has been working on a 13-track album with XO and told the Wall Street Journal that “We were just having fun with it and it ended up being an album.” Spending two weeks in Los Angeles working on the album with XO, the album is set to be released later this year.

Mike Chehadé, who worked on the album with Dempsey, said the songs could give the USMNT an edge, “We’re not known as a soccer powerhouse—we’re almost known for being soft. But Clint has this edge.”

This is not Dempsey’s first song, he also released the video “Don’t Tread on Me” in 2007, which was produced by Nike. That song featured a music video showcasing Dempsey playing with a ball and training on a pitch before a game.

“It’s Poppin” features Dempsey talking about his humble beginings in Texas, becoming “Captain America” and “bangin G’s” or better known as scoring goals. The track opens up with a synthesized beat and transitions to Dempsey talking about balancing fame with his humble beginnings. Even saying, “See my followers I’m not common, though I was raised off that Ramen,” and ends with the same synthesized beat the song opened with.
