The International Champions Cup match between AS Roma and UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid will take place in Dallas, Texas on July 29 in the Cotton Bowl. This will be the team’s second match each of the tournament with Roma having played Manchester United and Real Madrid playing Inter Milan three days before.

The Cotton Bowl has been home to many teams and tournaments, including two MLS teams (Dallas Burn from 1996-2002 and FC Dallas in 2004-2005). Along with a number of NCAA and NFL football teams, the city of Dallas uses the stadium as part of their fairgrounds. The stadium was built in 1930 and can hold a total capacity of 92,100, making it one of the larger stadiums in the United States. The Cotton Bowl hosted six matches of the 1994 World Cup and hosted all the Gold Cup Soccer matches in 1993.

Real Madrid Club de Futbol was founded in 1902 as Madrid Football Club. They were bestowed their Real title by King Alfonso XIII in 1920 after joining and helping to found the Royal Spanish Football Federation. They are one of the most successful clubs in the world with 32 Spanish League titles, 18 Copa del Ray titles, and nine European Championship trophies. FIFA named it the top team of the 20th century and Forbes listed Real as the most valuable soccer club in the world right now.

Associazione Sportiva Roma, better known as A.S. Roma, has played top tier soccer since being founded in 1927, except for the 1951-1952 season. They’ve won the Serie A three times, nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italian titles. Their home stadium is Stadio Olimpico that they share with rivals Lazio, the stadium can seat 70,634 people. Olimpico is the second largest stadium in the Italy, the San Sirio in Milan only having one more seat.

Real Madrid enjoyed a successful beginning to the 2013-2014 season by winning the Champions League by a score of 4-1 for a record setting 10th time, the second biggest margin of victory in a UEFA Champions League final. With a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti and a contract extension keeping Cristiano Ronaldo in Madrid until 2018 the Spanish team seems set to continue their reign.

AS Roma also appointed a new manager at the start of the 2013-2014 season, Rudi Garcia, who enjoyed a successful start to his career in Rome by setting a record in winning 10 games in a row. AS Roma will be competing in the Serie A for the 62nd season in a row and 82nd overall.

Tickets are still available for Real Madrid vs AS Roma, but don’t delay.
