Manchester United are contemplating playing several high-profile friendlies overseas if the club doesn’t qualify for the UEFA Champions League or Europa League at the end of this season. Not qualifying for Europe represents £20million less in the coffers of the Old Trafford club, so United are considering playing friendlies in the Middle East, Asia and America as a way to make up for the loss in income.

United would play the friendlies during the season during openings in their calendar where they would typically play in the Champions League or Europa League.

Manchester United have already announced a tour to play in the United States this summer. Given their current league form, it could be months instead of years before the Red Devils return to the States.
