Top 5 must-see soccer games: Feb. 7, 2014

Arguably the game of the weekend comes from Ligue 1 on Sunday, as league leaders PSG travel to second placed Monaco.

The game will see  both teams without premier centre-forwards—as Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani will miss out due to injury—but this shouldn’t dampen what is set to be a hugely intriguing contest.

Put simply, if Monaco are to continue harbouring any hopes of winning the Ligue 1 title, a win is an absolute must here. They have been excellent in front of their own supporters so far this season having only lost one game, and a win against the current champions will put Claudio Ranieri’s side within two points of the Ligue 1 summit. Dimitar Berbatov could make his Monaco debut after his January move from Fulham and Monaco supporters will be looking to him to fill the void left by the injured Falcao.

But beating the Parisians would be some achievement. Even without Cavani, they boast a forward line of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Yohan Cabaye could also make his first start for the club after making his debut as a substitute against Bordeaux last weekend.

If PSG can get the job done here, then the Ligue 1 title looks sewn up.

Paris SG-Monaco will have the most intrigue of all. Berbatov cannot replace Falcao but a debut goal will help. Also the South Wales derby pales in comparison to the Roma-Lazio match. Expect the unexpected.

Liverpool haven’t beaten Arsenal in the league in Anfield in 7years. That’s the worse home record Liverpool have against any club. Liverpool have only beaten Arsenal twice in their last 18 matches, home and away. Arsenal have a better midfield and Liverpool’s poor defense gives Arsenal an edge and Suarez hasn’t scored against Arsenal yet and struggles to score against the top clubs. Also Arsenal’s defense is now one of the best in the league. Arsenal will fancy all 3 points.

The Welsh derby will be a fiery affair and the home side, Swansea, will be slight favourites. Both sides need a win to move up the table and stay away from the relegation zone. All eyes will be on new manager monk to see which team he picks.

Spurs-Everton will be a very engaging match with little to separate the two sides at the moment. Everton are one of a few teams who play well away so Spurs will need to be at their best to get a result. A draw would not be a surprising result.

Finally he best match of the week doesn’t have Arlo jabbering through it… And thank god Tim Howard is playing instead of moonlighting.

    To a good weekend!

Personally I like Arlo White, well after experiencing the ‘Gus Johnson effect’ last year. You have no choice but to appreciate someone who is at least better than the meidocre dude FOX decided to make the lead commentator. And as for Tim Howard, whose idea was it to even make him a co-commentator?! That person should be fired

Don’t get me wrong, I like Arlo… It’s just his commentary style of late is WAY Too much talking about factoids and crib sheets and not COMMENTATING on the action on the pitch.. It really has been evident the last 3-4 games… He can’t hold a candle to any of the TWI guys… He needs to rethink his style… His like the sound of his own voice too much… Let the game breathe Arlo.

Liverpool v Arsenal may give a better feel whether Liverpool will finish top 4.
